That 2011 Meme Thing

This was lifted from wildbilltx...the check's in the mail. :-)

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
It seems to me that there wasn't really anything "new" this year.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any resolutions for 2011...but I definitely have some goals in mind for 2012.

3. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
More than likely I'll be at my parent's place. If I get the inspiration to stay up, I might watch the Times Square ball drop...but honestly, I just don't see the thrill in it anymore. If I fall asleep before the ball drop, at least I'll wake up knowing it's a new year.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, no. Unfortunately, there are several people I know who lost a loved one this year, and my heart really goes out to them.

5. What countries did you visit?
None. And one day I hope that will change.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
hmmm...at the fear of jinxing things, I'm not sure I want to answer this one.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 26. A certain Cinderella (or "Cinderfella" in my case) moment occurred for me in Pittsburgh which FLOORED me. Even today I'm still trying to make sense of it.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Again, at the risk of jinxing things, I'd rather not say.

9. What was your biggest failure?
For me, getting sick in December was a great failure for me. It threw a monkeywrench into the plans I had for myself as far as physical fitness goes, and it might be a little while still before I'm back into the game.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
(see #9 above) It happened after returning from a trip to Florida. I rarely get chest colds as bad as the one I had, and as of today I'm still not completely over it.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My "new" ride. Ever since they were re-introduced, I'd always wanted to upgrade to a TDi vehicle. Just a couple weeks ago, the opportunity presented itself and I couldn't let it pass by. So, I'm now the owner of a fantastic 2009 VW Jetta TDi. :-)

12. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, food, credit cards (don't get me started there), and conventions.

13. What song will always remind you of 2011?
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem

14. What do you wish you'd done more of
Spending real time with those in my life who mean the most to me. This is actually one of my resolutions for 2012.

15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Isolating myself from others. For the longest time I've either held people at arm's length or slowly pushed them out of my life...and when I look back at the person I've become, I can't help but cry for all the opportunities I missed.

16. What was your favorite TV program?
I don't watch TV.

17. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
It would be so easy to say "myself"...but I also know me well enough to know that's not really true. I don't think I really have an answer to this one.

18. What was the best book you read?
Besides magazines I didn't read many this year. Damn Internet! (Sorry Wild`Bill...you said it better than I could.)

19. What was your greatest musical discovery?
n/a

20. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hugo (I'm more of a softie than I thought I was)

21. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Took a trip to Florida to spend my 40th birthday with the Funday Pawpet Show.

22. What kept you sane?
Chat rooms. It's nowhere near the same experience as spending RL time with others, but knowing that somebody is just a click away if you needed someone to talk to makes things a bit more bearable.

23. Who did you miss?
My brother Gary, who is as of right now still deployed in the Middle East. If nothing else, my greatest gift for 2012 will be knowing that he's back in the U.S. safe and with his family.

24. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
(It's a lesson I actually had to be reminded of this year.) The only person who can make your dreams come true is you...sitting by waiting for them to happen won't work.
...HAPPY BIRTHDAY, bigbluefox!!

^.^

I am a fraud. :-(

Has anyone here ever had an offer made to them that sounded great at first...then felt as though there was no reason at all why they should've made the offer to you? Has anyone here ever felt that to accept such an offer would be morally fraudulent?

That's about what I'm feeling right now. It feels...depressingly weird.

Happy Birthday To...

...xaviervonrottie! (I hope I'm not the first person to do this, either.) ;-)

Happy Birthday! *hugs*

Furry Connection North 2010 - The Verdict

I've had a full day to recover from travel to and from Michigan for the 2010 edition of FCN...and I honestly have to say that this was one of THE BEST convention experiences I have had to this point in my life. So many things just came together to make for a TOTALLY AWESOME good time, and I'm amazed that PCD hasn't set in yet. (Knowing me, I'll probably start crying as soon as I hit "Post"...)

HIGHLIGHTS:
- The biggest contributing factor to my FCN experience has to have been my roommates: pandaguy, antimon, and wildfox34. You three were absolutely AMAZING, and if I ever have the chance to room with the three of you again, I'll do it. (Yes, even with the insanity involved.)
- I had two themed "outfits" for the convention (DEVO and hair metal) which I wore Friday and Saturday (respectively). I'm honestly amazed at how much positive attention those two outfits received in light of all of the themed outfits I saw (including a Ghostbuster, the furry version of Marty McFly from "Back to the Future", and a pimped-out character from the 80's...the 1880's), and I'm so glad I was able to make some people smile by wearing them.
- Last year a fursuiting dream of mine came true when antimon offered to let me borrow a suit. This year, he was gracious enough to lend me a suit for two days during the convention. I swear, the more I wear a suit, the more and more I want one of my own. Thanks Antimon...the experience means so much to me. *snugs*
- Another highlight of last year was having tilt_longtail as a roommate. Getting the chance to see him again this year was an absolute pleasure. This guy is crazy. And I love him so much for it.
- Because of the reputation of FCN, there were quite a few "furlebrities" (you can smack me for that one) in attendance, and yet, because of the convention's size, it's so easy to actually start up and have conversations with these and every guest of the convention. I can't possibly name all of the people who I've bumped into that I've had the opportunity to talk to, but you have all contributed to my great experience, and I thank every single one of you.

LOWLIGHTS:
- The only true lowlight for me was the fact that I didn't really get to use my camera as often as I had for previous conventions. I did manage to break my kit out for the Fursuit Parade, but that was really it. I'm not sure if this was a fluke, or if it's a sign that my convention-going priorities are changing, or if it's something I haven't even thought of yet. It might be a while before I find out.

In short, FCN'10 was a fantastic convention, and the people who helped to put it all together deserve a lot of respect for pulling it off so well.

Thank you, girtygrin, nikvulper and ALL of the FCN staff members for one of the best times of my life. I'm already making plans for FCN in 2011, and I know it's just going to get better and better all the way around. Congratulations, guys...you ROCK!

Being An Adult Sucks, Reason #31,415...

The older I get...the more practical my way of thinking goes.

Maybe a couple days away from "reality" will help things. Let's hope so, anyway.

Happy Birthday Wishes

Today marks the birth of a certain bassethound who LOVES getting hugs. He's also a genuine sweetheart, so if you see him today, be sure to give him an extra-long hug!

Happy Birthday bradhound!!
